OUR QUEEN CITY OF THE SOUTH EXPERIENCE!
Around 6:00 p.m. when we arrived at Pier 1 from Tagbilaran Pier and rode a taxi to our accommodation in Cebu. We stayed at ALT Commercial Complex which was minutes to an hour away from the city.
Our tour guide told us that that was not the most convenient location to stay if you’re a tourist because the city is the most accessible.
ALT is a dormitory-type guesthouse. It’s a small air-conditioned room good for 4 pax which has two double-deck and 1 cabinet with 4 compartments. It doesn’t have a private restroom, but there are 8 CRs per floor.

This is already a good catch for those budget-conscious travelers because even though it’s a bit far from the city, it gives you some extra from what you paid for. It has a wifi, a canteen at the lobby that offers a variety of delicious food for a very affordable price, very nice and accommodating staff, a TV and couch at each floor lobby, and free use of their well-equipped gym.
For our 3 days and 2 nights of stay, it only cost us PHP 2,550 for our whole group already. That’s only PHP 637.50/pax for a 3D2N stay. Such a great deal for a cebu travel expenses, huh? 🙂
Day 3 – October 17, 2016 – Our first day was dedicated for uphill and city tour. Below are some of my snaps of the beautiful Queen City of the South.
SIRAO FLOWER FARM - AMSTERDAM FEELS IN THE PHILIPPINES
This place is too perfect for your “inner model” self. Every corner is great for photo ops.
Look through my snaps how much I enjoyed posing with the flowers that I felt like a goddess of them. hihi
TEMPLE OF LEAH – A TESTAMENT OF AN UNDYING LOVE
This place was built as proof of the love of a husband for his wife. He built a temple for her to show his enormous love for her. This must be the Taj Mahal of the Philippines.
We also learned that the owner is a relative of the celebrity goddess Ellen Adarna.
TAOIST TEMPLE – A PLACE OF LUCK
We were surprised that the temple was located inside a subdivision. During the tour, we learned that the temple was the first one built in the area. And since the Chinese Community believes that being near the temple would draw them closer to luck, many of Chinese people built their houses close to it.
Gokongwei, owner of Cebu Pacific Airline, was one of the owner of the closest houses in the area. It was actually just next to the temple. He must be one of the proof of the “luck” that this temple brings to owners of houses near to it.

PINO BUFFET RESTAURANT
This is where we had our hearty buffet lunch. The food was good and the place has this royalty feels. And wait until you see their restroom. hihi I just hope that there’s more choices of food.
YAP-SAN DIEGO ANCESTRAL HOUSE
This house has been standing strong for decades already braving all the storms and pests that want to bring it down. Almost all the structures of the house remain untouched for decades. The walls, the roofs, the stairs, almost everything.
During the World War 2, some Japanese soldiers used this house as a refuge. Maybe that’s the reason it was spared from bombing. hehe Though some issues of the house are starting to manifest like those leaks of the roof when raining.
FORT SAN PEDRO
Just like Manila’s Fort Santiago, this place holds a huge part in the history, especially during WWII. You can see here rusty canons used during the war, a museum that keeps all the memorabilia of our great past, and a collection of photos of the old look of the place.
2ND BRIDGE - MARCELO FERNAN BRIDGE CEBU
This bridge was built when the old one was bumped by a ship that caused its wreckage. The company of the ship paid for the damage which was more than enough to fix it, hence they decided to build another one and that is this bridge. I wasn’t able to take a photo of the 1st bridge, though.
ALEGRE GUITAR FACTORY
They make their very own quality guitars and you can see different kinds of it here.
I just love that their staff will do a random performance to show you how great their products sound that you’ll see yourself stomping your foot to the tune of the song or even singing with them.
MAGELLAN’S CROSS – THE CRADLE OF CHRISTIANITY
This place was known as The Cradle of Christianity. The cross placed by Magellan was known to have a healing power hence people gathered there to pray and before they leave, they would get some piece of the cross until it became smaller and smaller overtime. That’s why they decided to cover it to preserve the original one. Yes, the one we are seeing now is not the original. It’s inside of that cross.
BASILICA DEL STO. NIÑO DE CEBU
This is just next to where Magellan’s Cross is. I wasn’t able to take photos inside because it is not allowed. 🙁 Many believers flock to the church, and it came to the point that it can no longer accommodate everyone. Hence, they built an extension right in front of it.
CEBU HERITAGE MONUMENT
This is where you can see all the significant events and popular people in Cebu.
It was 5 or 6 p.m. when we ended the tour and travelled back to our guesthouse. We had to rest as early as possible because we had to wake up early the following day for our activity in Oslob.
